Abilene Premier Eye Care offers specialized eye surgery for a variety of ophthalmological conditions. Sometimes eye surgery is the best option for an eye condition that is not responsive to other forms of treatment. In this blog post, we’ll review some commonly asked questions about cataract surgery.
What are the side effects of cataract surgery?
Itching and mild discomfort are normal after cataract surgery. Some fluid discharge is also common. Your eye may be sensitive to light and touch. If you have discomfort, your doctor can suggest treatment. After one or two days, moderate discomfort should disappear.
For a few days after surgery, your doctor may ask you to use eyedrops to help healing and decrease the risk of infection. Ask your doctor how to use your eyedrops, how often to use them, and what effects they can have. You will need to wear an eye shield or eyeglasses to help protect your eye. Avoid rubbing or pressing on your eye.
When you are home, try not to bend from the waist to pick up objects on the floor. Do not lift any heavy objects. You can walk, climb stairs, and do light household chores.
How should I sleep after cataract surgery?
We do not recommend sleeping on your side after cataract surgery. If you sleep on your back or on the opposite side of the eye that you had surgery on, you will reduce the risk of irritation to your eye. Also, make sure you use your eye shield at bed time for one week.
Will I still need glasses after cataract surgery?
Your vision will be significantly improved, however you may still need to wear glasses. There are many factors that determine if you will still need glasses, so we cannot provide a definitive answer for everyone.
How long does it take to recover from cataract surgery?
In most cases, healing will be complete within four weeks. Your doctor will schedule exams to check on your progress.
